Why must the President swear on a book of false promises and exaggerated claims?

Cant he swear on a Book with facts and common sense?

That way if something ironic happens it happens for the better. Why must the President swear on a book of false promises and exaggerated claims?
Because America is stuck in the dark agesWhy must the President swear on a book of false promises and exaggerated claims?
It's funny when people say this is a christian nation when many of our fore-fathers were in actuality atheist %26amp; agnostic. It's been written many times over by Franklin that this is NOT a christian nation.

I would love to see a president swear upon the Constitution and not a book of fantasy %26amp; bullshit.
The Bible is God's Word to humanity, but we humans have botched it up by trying to interpret it through today's news, instead of understanding it is a history book, filled with metaphor, allegory, poetic and apocalyptic verbiage. Because so few really take the time to LEARN how to understand it (by studying history, cultures, and Biblical hermenteutics) it has been misinterpreted time and time again, and very few can agree on what it is saying. But at least most Americans still honor it, and it is still the best selling book...
Everyone does not share your opinion about the validity of the Bible. The Bible to many Americans is the book of facts and common sense. Because, the President swears his oath of office on the Bible this is more evidence that the United States is a Christian nation.

In the Ancillary Practices section you'll see not every president has sworn on a Bible. John Quincy Adams swore on a book of law.
He is making a vow upon the book of his beliefs. That gives the oath that he is taking of massive importance to him, if he believes, if not then it is done as a matter of tradition. What would you have him use, the yellow pages?
Fifty years ago common sense said that blacks were inferior to whites.

Common sense is just whatever you would want it to be.
Actually he can swear on the Constitution if he so chooses.
Cos his job is full of false promises and exaggerated claims.
I wish he'd do something *really* radical and not swear on a bible. Really, I do.
maybe because all Obama is are false promises and exaggerated claims
The Constitution does not require him to do so; it's simply tradition.
He IS swearing on a Book with facts and common sense.
So that you could get off your bum and write a question about him.
