Why do people use Rev. 22: 18 to say that the Book of Mormon is false?

even non-Mormons who know a little bit about bible history knows that it's talking about the book of revelations because the bible wasn't even put together then.Why do people use Rev. 22: 18 to say that the Book of Mormon is false?
Because a lot of people believe that God was talking about the Bible. Their preacher told them so.

Most people in the Christian world believe that the Bible was written cover to cover by prophets and apostles. They believe that it has always existed in its present form and that the lay person having it is a relatively recent experience.

BTW The moment you mentioned Mormon, you lost people. If you want a more serious answer to your questions, keep controversy out of your question. As you can see already as I type this, the answers don't address the question. (well, most don't).

Try ';What does it mean when Rev. 22: 18 says ... ?'; Then you will get answers to the question. People view about the scripture instead of Mormonism. We all know what Christians, who believe in the accepted and historical doctrines of Christianity, think about Mormons. No great mystery there.Why do people use Rev. 22: 18 to say that the Book of Mormon is false?
Because they don't realize that it is referring to the book of Revelation. They don't realize that it was a letter sent to seven churches.

This brings up a question. The King James version of the Bible has italicized words wherever the translators felt they needed to add words to make the translation sound correct in English, but they did add words. As soon as they did that, it was no longer the original.

Also, I was reading on another website, one that promotes the KJV, that there are changes and omissions (when compared to the KJV) in many modern versions of the the Bible.

So, does John's warning apply to the translators of the KJV and the creative writers who influenced later versions?
Because they don't konw their early Christian history...

or

Because they don't know how the Bible was compiled (yes, it's a compilation)...

or

Because they're sheeple, following blindly what their minister said...

or

.....

In reality, there are a number of possible explanations as to why people choose to interpret that passage incorrectly.
*This is for Binky the Carolinian and for Alyssa*

The fault lies with christians - not with alyssa's question because that wasn't Alyssa's question. The fact that people go berserk upon seeing ';mormon'; without even LISTENING/READING the question shows they don't pay attention or don't know the answer - a strong clue they don't know what they are talking about and just react rather than respond. I would say they are ';blinded'; by prejudice or hatred or even ignorance if the simple word ';mormon'; causes them not to read the question or to be lost.

2 timothy 4 talks about christianity doing this as we see people dived up into congregations along lines of THEIR beliefs:

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own clust shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Unfortunately, I feel this malady exists in politics as well and a lot of other places - but it's a problem on the audience's part - not the speakers - if the speaker wishes to adapt to it - that's one thing - or if the speaker wishes to use this weakness of the audience to illustrate her point - that works too.

The Book of Mormon mentions ALL KINDS of dates. It mentions when Christ came, how many years after he came that certain events happened, etc. Apparently you have never read the Book of Mormon.

The question of Revelations 22:18-19 is brought up again and again. Yet no one seems to do any research beyond just reading those words. A study of the Bible would show that John wrote those words BEFORE he wrote the Gospel of St John. In other words, he would not have meant that anything ';added'; after he wrote that should be excluded from the cannon of God's words, or his own Gospel of St John would need to be left out.

What John was referring to is exactly what he wrote: we should not add to the Book of this prophecy, or in other words the Book of Revelation that he was writing at the time. It is much much later that all of the collections of separate books in the BIble were all added together to form the Bible that it became the Bible.

You need to read things in context and in an understanding of their time frame. It all makes perfect sense if you let it.
I don't know. It really is all about interpretation. Clearly they think that having another testament of Jesus Christ subtracts from the value of the Bible. (Not true: they add to each other's value because they both talk about Christ and the gospel.)

I always like to use a scripture mastery from John 10 to show them substantial Biblical proof that Jesus helped other people. ';And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold; them also I must bring; and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.';
Simple lack of true study of the scriptures and knowledge of how they came to be - and they honestly think it is a valid argument that we haven't heard before.
Jesus alone is the Truth

I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

the bible is the word of God

the book of Mormon is frrom man
Joseph Smith told the brethern.'; that the book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth.';

This disquilifies the bible.

In the bible the flood year and Noah was year 1656, Abraham's covenant was 427 years later, Moses was at Exodus 430 years later, he died 40 years later, Josh.5:6,10,12, goes into 1 more year to end the 40 years.

Judges 11:26, is 300 years later.

Samuel Acts 13:20,21, and Saul are 450 years after Exodus.

Solomon 1Ki,6:1, is 480 years after Moses dies, he has 36 years.

The Judah kings end 391st year. Year 3460, 606 BC.

No king begans his reign 600 years before Christ, this is based on what world history outside the bible is based on. Those coming down from the Babel Tower time, they do in the bible so why not multiple groups outside.

There are many books of interesting history, they do not have the savior as

major theme in Genealogy, Matt.1:1-17;

The bible renders the word hell, it is tomb, sepulchre, cave, pit, grave, dark abode of the dead, sheol, hades, burial plot as death is the opposite of life,

the spirit from God is the life of the soul, spirit in womb. Eccl.11:5, and to

death, Eccl.3:19-21, 12:7, and to raise the dead, Psm.104:29,30. as he did Jesus [ but if Jesus is Jehovah, this is as confusing as trinity, John 17:1-26;

I have not found a book outside the bible that adds any valuable facts to the bible,
Three other places in the Bible we are warned not to add to God's Word, or take away from it. The Bible also teaches that God gave His words to the Jews, and that His salvation would come through the Jews. He also told His disciples to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Holy Bible) to all the World.

Ask yourself this question. If God did all of that, why would He turn around and give a different Gospel to a non-Jew person, and tell Him to take it to all the World? That would be very confusing, and the Bible says God is not a God of confusion.

Therefore, the book of mormons, and all other such books are not of God, but of satan, who does try to confuse people so they won't receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Rom 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?

Rom 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

1Co 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
The book of Mormon is a work of fiction.

Every Bible Scholar worth his salt will tell you that.

Jesus NEVER came to America. That's an outright lie.

Just read the thing and you'll know theres no truth to it.
Jesus alone is the Truth no one else came from heaven. Jesus is Eternal He alone knows the Father.
You want to take a chance you are right go ahead. For me I will take the sure road and not add or subtract anything to or from the bible.
Simple....the book of Mormon never mention any date...the bible says for example what date Jesus died...Nisan 14...but the book of Mormon doesn't mention the date Jesus came to America...or any other date...Why??
They are adding a doctrine that God never gave.
What about in Galatians 1:6-9 where it talks about an angel being accursed for Preaching to you a different gospel?

Galatians 1:6-9

Perversion of the Gospel

6 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!

Didn't Joseph Smith claim that an angel appeared to him and gave him another gospel, Is that angel accursed now?.
