True or False? The books of the bible were not written during the period Jesus was actually alive?

100% true.

In fact, they were written decades after he supposedly died.

EDIT: Yes, complete hearsay. Not only that, but:

*They were written in a different language from the one Jesus would have spoken

*They were written in a different country from the one Jesus would have lived in

*Matthew and Luke clearly copied from Mark - only John stood alone

*For every major event in the life of Jesus, each gospel gives a different account

Why none of this worries the devotees, I'll never knowTrue or False? The books of the bible were not written during the period Jesus was actually alive?
There are two meanings to true in the context of your question: 1) that what is written in the Bible is true; and 2) that while what was written was roughly true, it wouldn't be considered true in a court of law.

My reading of the Bible is the information in the Gospels and the rest of the Bible is true when it records specific events or detail.True or False? The books of the bible were not written during the period Jesus was actually alive?
The Old Testament, of course, was written BEFORE Chrsit was alive.

Now, as for the New Testament.

The four Gospels, as well as Acts, James, 1 %26amp; 2 Peter, 1, 2, %26amp; 3 John, Jude, and Revelation, were all written by Christ's Apostles. The Gospels are eye-witness accounts, and so they would not be hearsay. They were written by the same apostles they are named for.

The book of Acts is also an eye-witness account, of what the Apostles did after Christ's death and ressurrection. It was written by Luke.

The letters, from Romans to Jude, are letters written either by Paul or by the apostles. Paul wrote all of the letters from Romans to Hebrews, and they are addressed to the churches and people the letters are named for.

From James to Jude, they are letters written by those who gave their names as titles of the books.

Finally, we come to Revelation. This books is a series of revelations made to the apostle John, who wrote them down. They're visions.

As such, none of these can be considered hearsay, as they are all fit in to one of three categories: first-hand, eyewitness accounts, letters, or revelations.
As a Christian I agree and say True.

No one knew the import of Jesus Christ when he was alive although he did mighty miracles and preached words of profound truth. And sometimes that is the way of life. The importance of someones life is only known until later.

But I disagree about when the writings about Jesus Christ were written decades after? No. You need to stop being skeptical about the Bible and go to some real Biblical historical records that give an account as to when it was written. Here is but one site of many that discuss the destruction of the temple in 70AD that Jesus prophesied would happen that none of the gospels mentioned. Which is proof that the words of Jesus were not written decades after his life and ministry.

When Jesus Christ after his resurrection commanded his disciples to go forth into all the world and preach the gospel none of the disciples waited until decades later. They began the mission 50 days after being filled with the Holy Spirit of God.

I respectfully disagree. And I know that if I did not believe in the firm truth of the Bible. I have another question that I must ponder on because your question opens the door to this thought.

If I do not trust in the Bible and what it teaches and represents thousands of years of Jewish and gentile historical and spiritual truth. Then what book do I rely on that gives honest truthful answers about life and their meaning for me in the world today?

I thought about that issue.
Jesus age 30, Matt.3:16; Luke 3:21-23, baptized, year 4094, Jesus was age 33 1/ 2, year 31 1/ 2 CE, N. T. done year 98 CE. KJV Bible published 398 years ago. Judah kings ended at Babylon with Daniel, year 3460 [ 606 BCE, now at 2009 CE ], that was 2615 years ago, there will be no king but Jesus at his 2nd coming with his first resurrected.
Let's assume that Jesus died about 33 A.D. If the Gospels were all written around 70 A.D. The apostles were in their mid 20s at the time that Jesus lived, then they would have been around 65 at the time that the Gospels were written.

This is certainly possible. There's credible evidence that John the Apostle died in the early 2nd Century -- approximately 70 years after Christ Die. Peter, another apostle, lived until he was killed around 65 A.D.

If you want the evidence see the New Advent Encylopedia's If John lived to 100 A.D. (making him no less than 85) %26amp; the Apostle Peter lived to 65 A.D. (his life ending on that date only because he too was killed), then in what way is it unreasonable that the other apostles lived long enough after the crucifixion to write their Gospels?

To believe that it was impossible for the authors of the Gospels to have lived to 65 years of age is ludicrous.

Finally, there is an area that atheists never believe (because it involved divine intevention in human affairs--exactly what the atheists are contending against.....Isn't it possible that God could have kept them alive beyond their ordinary lifespans in order to compile the Gospels? Certainly seems reasonable to me.

The idea that the Apostles didn't write the Gospels because the average lifespan in 1st Centurywas too short is is simply wrong.
The oldest new testaments were written nearly 60 years after. The old testaments were all written several hundred years before.
They were written approx. 60-70 years after he supposedly lived. However there is no empirical evidence to support that he even existed to begin with.
False. It's mostly myth and legend, fable and tales with a touch of history. Dictated not by god but by priests and scholars and Romans.

True. That would not make it hearsay. Hearsay is when someone that was not there is telling what they were told. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were all walking with Jesus and heard and witnessed things first hand.
True enough. All of the Old Testament was written long before Jesus was born.
No they where not, true.
true
yes the gospels were wrote many years after jesus died.
