I'm just wondering cause lots of people say plenty of things about Mormonism being false but how many of you have actually read from the direct source such as the Doctrine and Covenants or the Book of Mormon?Poll: How many people who come on here and say that the Book of Mormon is false have actually read it?
Unfortunately, I have read it. Joseph Smith has a real problem with run-on sentences.
If found it almost unreadable, actually. The moral of the story is completely mundane. It's easy to see it was written by a young inexperienced person in the 1830s with a very narrow background.
It is full of things about early America that we now know are not true. DNA tells us that American natives came from Siberia, not, cough, Isreal. In a reed boat, across the Atlantic?
Here's a blurb that says it better than I can:
The detailed history and civilization described in the Book of Mormon does not correspond to anything found by archaeologists anywhere in the Americas. The Book of Mormon describes a civilization lasting for a thousand years, covering both North and South America, which was familiar with horses, elephants, cattle, sheep, wheat, barley, steel, wheeled vehicles, shipbuilding, sails, coins, and other elements of Old World culture. But no trace of any of these supposedly very common things has ever been found in the Americas of that period. Nor does the Book of Mormon mention many of the features of the civilizations which really did exist at that time in the Americas. The LDS church has spent millions of dollars over many years trying to prove through archaeological research that the Book of Mormon is an accurate historical record, but they have failed to produce any convincing pre-columbian archeological evidence supporting the Book of Mormon story. In addition, whereas the Book of Mormon presents the picture of a relatively homogeneous people, with a single language and communication between distant parts of the Americas, the pre-columbian history of the Americas shows the opposite: widely disparate racial types (almost entirely east Asian - definitely not Semitic, as proven by recent DNA studies), and many unrelated native languages, none of which are even remotely related to Hebrew or Egyptian.Poll: How many people who come on here and say that the Book of Mormon is false have actually read it?
It's the documented history of Joseph Smith that has convinced everyone that Mormonism is thoroughly false. The guy was a con artist. That's why he and his followers were driven out of at least 2 other states before they ended up in Utah (where there were no other people to drive him out!)
I haven't read the Book of Mormon but I do know that it has been proven wrong that South America didn't come from the two brothers that migrated from Israel. It wouldn't be such a big deal if Joseph Smith hadn't said that the Book of Mormon was historical fact.
Maybe that ';John W'; really did mean John Smith, you know just some random story about some random guy lol
I have.
Why does it matter anyway? I have seen people quote things from 3rd party sources. They never flat out deny the quotes, they only say ';those sources are not official and as such cannot be trusted as truth,'; or something to that regard. If that is true, then it is impossible to view the church from any point of view that is not its own. Ridiculous.
However, I do agree that one should examine what the Church has to say about itself, and I think lots of people who disagree with Mormonism have.
As a faithful Mormon I read it well over 30 times. First in seminary. Sometimes twice a year. Studied supporting apologetics such as Nibley...an Approach to the Book of Mormon.
It's a complete fraud. Glad to share evidence if you really want to know althought I realize that works directly against your point that to read it is to love it.
I have read chunks of it, with chunks of study into the D%26amp;C's and the Pearls of Great Price. I am most interested in the contextual changes that occurred in the BoM through the first two publications. Also, I find the Book of Abraham issue fascinating as well.
I never sat down and read the whole thing in its entirety, as it was boring as hell, but I have no doubt that in 30+ years of Sunday School, Young Adults, Relief Society, etc. that I've heard every word. Same with the D%26amp;C.
That said, you don't have to read the whole book to find out about all the fallacies in it.
I do not say that it is false in fact i love it and it is not just because i am a member of the church. I do have a testimony that i know that it is true, and also that the church is true and that we are led by a living prophet. By the way it is my very favorite book.
I've read some of it. I became suspiscious when I read that there are secret tablets from Christ and a new mission for your mormon founder. My suspiscion is based on my belief that Jesus Christ left nothing undone. The work of Jesus Christ was a complete work and a perfect work. Upon speaking with several Mormon elders I learned that they believe that the gift of the Holy Spirit got lost and needs to be recovered. This also goes against Bible scripture. I didn't see a need to read beyond the Book of Mormon's inconsistency with the Holy Bible.
Note: Your thumbs down doesn't make my statement any less the truth. So, go call all of the rest of your mormon friends so they too can rate all of us who don't buy what you have to sell, or do you only have eight fellow mormons in your congregation?
Yes I have read it!
I was a temple going member for years...
IT is False and poorly written... Have you ever read the first version of the book of mormon from 1830?
Oh man did it need some help, and GOT it!
Almost 4000 changes, and Most are not gammical.
The evidence is clear that the Book of Mormon cannot be correct, and Joseph Smith was a false prophet who has deceived many. The truth is that the Bible contains the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I own a copy and have read it cover to cover 2x at least. i see contradictions within its pages.i also see contradictions w/ the bible. the bible is always first, as far as right/wrong. so, if the bom disagrees w/ the bible, its got to be wrong.
1) I have not read it.
2) I do not need to read a counterfeit to recognize it as a counterfeit. I just ask these things:
a) Who does a religion say Christ is (GOD?)?
b) Does a religion add anything to the Word of God?
c) Who started a religion and when?
I have studied a slew of religions...Mormonism is one of them....As a scientist, I am still having problems finding any that are suitable....that isn't troublesome to me at all, it's actually a pattern.
Let me get this straight...a crazy man walks into the woods, gets lost, then suddenly shows up again saying that a god talked to him and told him what he wanted...and you buy that?
I have some moon property I'd like to sell you...
rofl @ witchcraft.
I bet 90% of people that deny the book of mormon havent read it themselves. If not a larger percent.
Sure they may have read verses online but never reading it.
I have not read it..But mormon bible studies people told me that my marriage was not legal because it was not done by a mormon relegious person..,pastor or whatever they are called. So I doubt that I will be reading it.
i own a book of mormon because i took one from those door to door salesmen... i mean mormons.
ive read some and still think it boguss. sorry.
I have read it. Many times. And I have asked God about its truthfulness. I have received an answer.
That is why I am a ....
The book of mormon is false.....I am a direct descendent of Heber C Kimball, he was my great grandfather....leader of mormon church
I read my bible and that tells me your book of mormon is false. Yes, I've read it...and it is hooey.
I have read it three time. Got no rhema from it and almost fell asleep most of the time when reading the scriptures when I was a mormon.
my guess is not many...those most will claim that they have.
Probably not that many.
I have read it. It reads the same as any work of fiction, including the bible and the quran.
Yeah! I read it! I study it! It's true, so don't dis on it!!
who cares
I have'nt read the Koran either.
So it must be true??
Peace to you and make the world a better place with your beliefs
My guess is none. People believe what they are told whether it's right, wrong, or indifferent. And I'm not even Mormon!
Yes, I've read it and I've also read books about it. I think its bogus. I think the founder of the church wanted to find a way to have sex with as many women as possible. Not too mention that he was probably charismatic %26amp; used that quality to get people to follow him. I don't consider Mormans to be Christian but a sect. All Christians have 3 beliefs in common. I can recall only two; belief in the Trinity %26amp; that Jesus died, was buried %26amp; rose from the dead to save our souls. Wish I could think of the 3rd one but I do know that Mormons do not believe in at least 1 of them.
I also know that until the last few decades Mormons lived their lives based solely upon the Book of Mormon. They have only begun saying that they use the Bible because they were critizied by true Christians for not doing so.
I haven''t. But i do know that four years after John Smith allegedly got a vision from God telling him all established churches were false and he should not join any of them, he joined the Methodist Church. (he was later kicked out for witchcraft)
I do and havent read it, its because my religion is the only true religion. duuuuuuuuuhhhhhh
