How do i know if the book of mormon is false?

I am desperately searching for God. I am mormon, but i don't feel it is the right religion for me. How do i disprove the Book of Mormon? How do i know if the book of mormon is false?
If a person wants to be a true, born again Christian, according to Biblical guidelines, he or she must reject anything that contradicts the Bible, or adds to it. The Mormon church does contradict the Bible, and they add plenty to it, elevating the BOM, The Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants up to the same sacred level as the Bible. Their theology is extremely messed up.......mixing sacred Biblical doctrines with their own, made-up doctrines. I would strongly suggest you look up a man named Walter Martin on the Internet, and read what he has to say about the Mormon faith. PLEASE do it, for your own sake, for your peace of mind. Mormonism is only one of many false cults, teaching a deceptive way of salvation. PLEASE look up Walter Martin, and judge for yourself. How do i know if the book of mormon is false?
Are you kidding me? That is your best answer? Wow. That's not a way to find out if it is false, that response was someone saying go look at someone's opinion. It in no way wants you to judge for yourself as it states. And, if you were to judge by yourself I would hope you look to the source.

Really? Cult? I can only assume you are Christian? We are on the same side, the BOM only talks about how we should follow and love Jesus. D%26amp;C, alot of it talks about the bible and it translates to a language we can understand, so read what we have to say and then check your self.

You can't tell if any religious text is false. Every religion says any other religion is false, so it doesn't matter which religion you get get into, because you'll think anything else is wrong.

For instance, if you're Mormon now, and you switch to, say, Catholicism, you'll think Mormonism was wrong. If you switch from Catholicism to say, Buddhism, you'd think Catholicism was wrong.

It's an endless cycle of claiming which religions are false. You won't be getting anywhere when you try to disprove one religious book with another religious book.
The same way you prove that it is true: by getting on your knees and asking God. Only He can tell you if something has come from Him. Still, I'm not trying to be offensive when I say that it seems as though your decision is already made, and if that's the case, then you may not be as open to the promptings of the spirit. God can only speak to those who are willing to listen and act on the answers they receive.

I don't really understand why you need to disprove the Book of Mormon--to justify leaving?--but if you feel this is not the faith for you, then good luck in your search for God.
The fact that you are searching for ways to disprove your religion is enough for me to know that no matter if it was proven to be true you still wouldn't believe it. If your trying to find a religion that ';fits'; your lifestyle than you are wasting your time. Religion is supposed to be about making yourself better, not making you feel good about what your already doing.
Most of the responses on here are pretty one sided. I wouldn't worry about everyone who says look into the origin or what science says. There are many world renowned scientists who are LDS and remember God's ways are not man's ways. Also, the things of God may seem weak in the world's eyes when in fact they are the most powerful. Mormons are some of the happiest individuals in the world so they've obviously got something figured out.

Humans naturally think the way they believe is right and everyone else is missing something. Look at politics. It's complete madness. Two people can look at the same problem and come up with exact opposite ideas on how to fix it and no matter what the future brings they will never agree with the opposite party. My point is that you can't get a good answer on here if the Book of Mormon is true or false, but you have to go to God and that's it.

Also, judging by the way the question is worded it seems like you would rather disprove the book of mormon than find out if it is true. If that is really the case, well, then you are kind of going about it the wrong way. You need to have faith first and then ask in faith through prayer if it is true and you'll get your answer, gauranteed. First off, you need to read it to really have an opinion one way or the other.

If you are searching for God then you need to find him first. Read about him in the bible or book of mormon. Talk to others about him. Pray to him and meditate and you can know where you can find Him in your life. After that, through the same means He can lead you to where you need to be and which works are His. You have to find Him first though. Maybe you can find Him in the Book of Mormon if you look. Good luck!
Don't waste your time disproving anything. It will be just that, a waste of time. Spend your time trying to increase your own spirituality, whatever that be. Religion cannot be proved or disproved as they are built upon faith; particularly the faith of the individual. If someone has prayed and believes it to be true, then power to them, whether I or you agree or not. We all must find our own faith/spiritualness. Trying to disprove someone else's faith will not increase your own. For me, I studied hundreds of religions, and respect each of them. My wife is agnostic. I am Mormon. We have mutual respect. That is how we should all be.
Well, did you want a list or just a few items?

The geography from the ';angel'; does not even come close to actual geography.

The anthropology of the humans living in North America does not even come close.

The technology (steel) apparently left no trace whatsoever.

The idea that Ancient Hebrews came to America was a popular idea around the same time that some people seriously believed in a huge continent called Atlantis that allowed crossing the Atlantic Ocean easier.

These were the same people who believed that the Ancient Egyptians built the Mayan pyramids because ';brown'; people were not smart enough.

Etc.
If you are truly ';desperately searching for God,'; then I cannot give you any better answer than to read the Book of Mormon for yourself, while praying to your Heavenly Father in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, to know that it is true.

Most of the answers you are getting here assume the book and the Church are false, yet I see more falsehoods in their arguments than there is room to point out. Many of their errors you can see for yourself, whatever your own level of experience with the Church may be. These people are the same as the ';blind guides'; the Savior warned against during His mortal ministry.

The truthfulness of the Book of Mormon means that God lives and loves you today. It is compelling evidence that Jesus Christ has restored His true church to the earth to prepare you and all others for His Second Coming. It is thus the right religion for all people, because Jesus Christ is the true Savior of all people.

The relatively few here who are testifying to you of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, rest assured that their testimonies will stand for all eternity, while those who speak to you against this book will soon enough find it contains the word of God, learning that fact in this life or in the world to come. For their sakes and for yourself, read the Book of Mormon and ponder its message, until God gives you its testimony, that you will not be deceived against that which God has already given you. You cannot find God by being turned away from Him, His scriptures, and His authorized servants in His own restored church.
Why do you want to disprove it? WHy don't you think it's the right religion? Have you asked God what is right? He is the ONLY one who can tell you what IS right...

The Book of Mormon teaches, preaches and testifies of Christ. I know the book is true and that the LDS church is the only church on this earth that contains the fullness of the gospel.

Maybe you need to ask yourself why you ';don't want'; the LDS religion to be true.
First and foremost, if you feel a religion is not right for you, that means it's not right. The truth is for everyone. You just need to find it.

Second, the book of mormon is false for many reasons, but here's my favorite. The bible says;

Revelation 22; 18,19

鈥淚 am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: IF ANYONE MAKES AN ADDITION TO THESE THINGS, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19 and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll.';
Ms Cuddlebear,

Sounds like you might know it is true. Trying to disprove something is actually backward from the way it is normally done. Generally, someone starts with an idea then tries to prove it. If it can't be proven then the realize it is false.

This is a decision you must make and find on your own. I have 2 recommended reading for you. Please do what they say and you will get your answer.

The first is to help in your search for God.

James 1:5-6

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

The Bible says that someone in your situation needs to turn to God. Pray and ask God to help you find Him.

The 2nd scripture is for your search in finding the truth about the Book of Mormon.

Moroni 10:3-5

3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.

4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

Don't make this decision on your own. Allow our Heavenly Father to help you. I look forward to finding out how your search went.
Read all the many posts....consider this%26gt;

The American Indian, the many Tribes that comprise The Nations that have lived upon this continent since the Great Spirit placed them in this land..The rich tribal history that is handed down from generation to generation...

Got that thought ...

There is NO MENTION of any of the history that LDS claim of the early Americas, don't you think all the many tribes would have NOTICED something? That such would be in their knowledge of their history?

It did not happen...no lost tribe, no visit from Christ, no gold plates, none of it is real....

get into the KJV Bible and run for the border...get to know Christ....
Ask yourself, where did the Golden Tablets and magic glasses go? Why is there absolutely no archeological evidence for a middle east/native american connection? If the Angel Moroni, lead Joe Smith (if that was his real name) to the Golden Tablets, why aren't we called the ';Morons'; after him?

I kid. The beliefs of Mormons, regarding metaphysical speculations are no more ludicrous than many another religion. And the adherents actions in following the prime rule of ALL religious and non-religious belief systems have a better track record than most. (What is hateful to yourself, do not do to others).

Like second, third, fourth or fifteenth generations of many religions, you don't have to turn your back on roots and family to come to the conclusion that you needn't have a literal belief in any particular religion. Take comparative religion courses. Read the sacred literature of all humanity. Study the work of universalists like Carl Jung or Joseph Campbell, and realize that there is potent truth in all the stories we tell ourselves. Our collective consciousness contains more accessible divinity than any speculations about metaphysics. Myth has broader shoulders than fact, in order to carry a greater burden of Truth.
I am a member of the church also and I have read the Book of Mormon many times...

I would ask, Are you looking with an eye of doubt? (looking to find fault?)(trying to disprove instead of prove)

I would also ask you if you have taken the Book of Mormon promise? (found in Moroni 10:3-5)

If you have done that then God WILL show you that the Book of Mormon is true...but it will be on His timeframe, not yours...if you haven't I would suggest you do that!

I took the Book of Mormon challenge but it was 10 years later, before God showed me that it was true.

I would encourage you to pray about it and read it! I know you will get an answer of truth about it eventually!

I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God! Have faith! stay active! keep praying! It IS the right church!
Books by Jerald and Sandra Tanner, are defiantly good books to read. They are not just some anti-Mormons who use to be Mormons, and they don't just write books that will get them great ratings and sells. If that where true, then they could have just stayed mormons, considering the Mormon church is rich.

There are so many scriptures that show that the book of mormon is wrong, and I've seen a lot on here already, so won't add any. I think that if you are questioning it, then you need to seek your answers.

Do you find it odd that mormons get angry when someone leaves their church? I do. Any church that is going to angry at you absence isn't acting like Christ would. When my mother left, they took things they had given to her away. Your church also doesn't let you associate w/other churches, do you find that odd? Remember, Jesus himself ate with sinners. If you want to find a true Christian, then challenge them. You want to find the right church, look for the ones loving people as Christ would. You cannot prove the Mormons wrong on your own, you can only prove it to your own heart, and someday you will be able to share your testimony with others. Don't fight with the Mormon church, just find your answers and walk away. God will give you peace.
simple, I tried to use the burning in the bosom on finding my eternal partner, when I trie dit on several gusy I dated, ALl of them were Mr. Roght and that could not be right at all. So I decided that the burning was a trick of the mind, or feelings can be deceptive and since I got a burnign for the book fo mormon, this made the book of mormon null and void as well.
Joseph Smith was a huckster and a conman. Look it up. Then ask yourself, why do I believe any of this nonsense? Read the bible, truly analyze the stories, the inconsistencies from book to book and accept that it is a cobbled together tome of legends from one particular group of bronze age goatherders. Use your critical thinking skills.... don't just accept what one side tells you.

In the end, you'll likely lose ';god'; but find yourself. And that IS a wonderful thing.
Every Christian religion after Catholicism has had this problem. And they all have to answer the same way and it condemns them.

Galatians 1

Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Maybe there was an angel Moroni and tablets etc. But so what ! Either the first Gospel was right or we can't tell EVER what is right.

Go to this page for helpful MP3 talks from Mormons who have become Catholic. Even if Catholicism scares you, you will get a very excellent help from these stories.

Walter Martin vs. Van Hale on Mormonism MP3
Jerald and Sandra Tanner, read their books. They are ex members of the LCD. Also another good book, that I am currently reading is, The Facts on The Mormon Church. It covers scriptures from the book of Mormon as well as the Bible. It also as many quotes from mormon leaders. I have a mormon friend and we discuss, not argue, this all the time. I am not anti-Mormon, but I do find the religion to be wrong for many reasons. There is so much scripture that goes against the belief that God was once man, or that any man can become God.

Here are a few: Hosea 11:9, Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8; 45; 5, 21. Malachi 3:6, James 1:17 and Numbers 23:19. There also many scriptures against talking to spirits. There is also no proof in the bible anywhere, that God had a wife, as the Mormons teach. I'm not saying that he doesn't, because it's possible that he does, but nowhere does he speak of her. So their couldn't possibly be a mother God. For Mormons to say that God just didn't find it important to mention her, is just a little mean. I mean, who would deny their wife mention?

It speaks of different heavens, but it doesn't name them, so I don't know where Mormons even got the names. Joseph Smith was well known for always skipping churches, and trying to prove certain scriptures wrong, before he had his ';vision';. His parents where aslo medians, I suppose that's why he taught that that it was okay to speak to spirits. I also don't understand why the Mormon church doesn't allow it's memebers to associate w/other Churches. If they truley see other Churches as fellow Christians, then what's the problem, they should have nothing to fear, right? This one was very hard for my friend to sollow, because she loved going to my church events. Anyway, I am not yelling, just writing. I hope you find what you need, and good luck on your Journey to God : )

Reading something in The Book of Mormon and then praying for wisdom from God is not the way to go, that's asking your own heart, and not God's. Try reading scriptures from the Holy Bible only, and then praying to God. Like that girl said above, God warned in revelations about adding and taking away. : )
It really doesn't make sense to me (the Book of Mormon). I'm skeptical of any ';modern'; religions -- I am more likely to personally go with a religion that, somehow, has stood the test of time for over 2000 years. But it's all a personal choice, of course.

There really is no CERTAIN way to disprove it. Who can positively say that L Ron Hubbard didn't get a ride in a magic space ship and have brunch with Xenu the king of the alien race that brought on Scientology........

You can only follow your heart, and your spirit in this search.
magic glasses?

american indians realy jews?

god aproved of polyigamy then changed his mind because of the us government preasure?

its either right or wrong and god the maker of the universe doesnt have to negociate or accomodate governments
Well, I'm not going to bash your religion (not to mention that of your family and lots of those you love probably) but I will say this:

Thousands of years ago religions were formed when a an event happened that was so emotionally powerful to a group of people that they felt the need to attribute it to a powerful over being. Basically there was a huge storm and it rained, and no one knew WHY this rain was so bad and why trees were catching fire, so they assumed they must've pissed someone off upstairs (fair assumption...) So they tried to figure out how to stop that from happening in the future.

Religion is about keeping the balance in a community and in a person's life. That's what it's FOR. Psychologically, religion gives the religious person a focal point and a way of expressing things that would otherwise be truly beyond reason. How can you express the fact that you believe that someone is always with you, watching over you and being concerned for you, giving you emotional support when you need it and giving you the advice you don't want to hear when you need it? So, we believe in god (I won't say we MAKE UP god but we certainly DO make up OUR CONCEPTION of what god IS which is why the face of god has continuously changed as the face of humankind has done so through the centuries.)

(NO I AM NOT SAYING YOU MADE UP GOD, OR THAT ANYONE DID, SO NO ONE FREAK OUT PLEASE.

I'm saying that in order to understand something beyond compression we have to put a framework around it that IS within our grasp, and THAT is religion. Scientifically speaking that is. Math is another HUGE area we do that with, using numbers like Pi to represent a concept that we cannot possibly grasp such as infinite continuation. So whatever explanation or religion that HUMANS CREATE to explain their relationship with their gods, the explanation is just that: a flawed, personally expressed and biased vision of whatever the truth about the HUGE concepts religion attempts to tackle ACTUALLY is.

Is that a bad thing?? In my opinion absolutely NOT! There has to be some way of reconciling the pain and confusion of our short human lives with the joy and love that is possible. Without some sort of faith, in SOMETHING, we'd all be completely destitute, even if that faith is a faith in the idea that there is nothing but one's own resources to rely on.

So...

You went into this question asking ';How do I disprove the Book of Mormon because I personally no longer have faith in it at the moment.';

May I suggest that disproving the accuracy of the story told by the Book of Mormon may not be the most efficient target for your soul searching? Instead, I suggest that you investigate what it is about the Mormon Religion as a whole that's not working for you. Because the book is not what's getting under your skin and if it is you shouldn't let it. It was written by flawed men who put their pants on one leg at a time just like you, and it IS quite possible that it contradicts itself, science, history, logic, common sense and reason. Look at the bible for instance. Taken literally word for word 100 percent, it is riddled with contradictions, nonsensical drivel, tangents for no apparent reason, and encouragements of hate and fear mongering. But still, despite thousands of years, billions of individual interpretations of The Word, its central themes persist and resonate with people not as as source of anger but as one of peace and comfort. THAT is the meaning of truth and divine inspiration, not some provable or disprovable series of events.

Searching for your conceptualization of god has to be an internal thing in the end. You should by all means, listen to opinions and encourage discussion, but in the end what matters is when you ask yourself, ';Am I serving my god properly and do I have faith in what I believe about the universe and my place in it?'; Because if you can stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the face, and answer yes, you have found the framework for believe that you honestly can live with.

Hope that helps, and of course, it's just one more person's opinion...
The Book of Alma has ripped off a few verses from Isaiah. Besides, Joseph Smith was a notorious liar. Many people have claimed to have seen God just for attention, and there are many proven truths that contradict the Book.
come on ..... like dude seriosuly.... come on like for real? God lives on a nearby planet with his many wives?

Joseph Smith found a gold tablet but no one has ever seen it nor is it in any museaums or recorded in any way.

Worst of all Black people are descended from Caine for there sins???? Now we all know that is just racism

Do you really need help disproving this, because it makes absolutely zero sense.
So, when did you join the mormon church because you just posted this question a month ago.

';I am Pentecostal and i think i'm in love with a mormon guy?!?';

??????

So what is it? Are you Pentecostal dating a mormon guy or are you a mormon?
The Bible is inspired by God. There is nothing in it that He does not want in it. The Bible has been preserved by God through history for our benefit today! It has survived even book burnings that were meant to destroy it completely but failed.

(2 Timothy 3:16) 16聽All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,

(Romans 15:4) 4聽For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.

Now on the other hand, man has ruled himself into the ground! Every direction given by man has failed miserably even though the intent was good.

(Jeremiah 10:23) 23聽I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.

In the light of these scriptures to me it seems that God has our better interest in His heart but man at best wasn't designed to direct himself. So who would be best to write a book for us to follow?
you take the book and ***** slap your mom untill your cows come home. or is that amish just find some cows and slap your mom with the book and be like bwahahah ill be a satanist.
There are absolute scientific contradtions to many items claimed in the book of mormon.

As you may be aware the book was translated by BY, who was a gold prospector. BY found gold tablets which are to this day supposedly held at Salt Lake City. BY ';translated'; the message contained on the tablets into the book of Mormon. This wasn't a translation in the commonly used meaning of that phrase, rather BY placed the tablets into his hat and covered his head with a blanket and ';read'; the tablets to someone to took down BY's oral translation. Naturally no one, except the highest ranking members of the Church can see the tablets and of course no one can inspect the tablets in any manner.

You will likely find many books pertaining to the numerous false and baseless teaching of this cult in any bookstore. One of the mostmost famous is the book of BY's great-great-granddaughter who left the church, Sandra Tanner and her book, The Changing World of Mormonism.
Because man wrote it like all of the religious books. If you are desperately seeking God, look within Yourself and not outside of Yourself, that would confuse anybody.

You won't find God in religion, you will only find a psychotic humanized religious god.

Also remember that not everyone has the same definition of God as being 'religious.' I call my Inner Truth God, it has nothing to do with religion or what someone else wants me to believe. God may mean something entirely different to you personally, and that's ';okay.'; Do your own research, look within your own heart, not someone else's.
If it were true, there would be many non LDS scientists and scholars who would confirm that people from the Middle East came to the Americas. There are exactly NO independent scientists who consider it true.

Not one.

Every reference you have ever been given showing the Book of Mormon is true comes from another Mormon. And from a Mormon with no training or reputation in the fields that matter, like genetics, linguistics, anthropology.

Even LDS scholars in those fields are quiet about the Book of Mormon when they publish in reputable journals.

There is simply nothing to disprove. It has as much truth as the Loch Ness Monster or Big Foot.
All you need do is pick up the bible. Jesus said, ';my sheep know my voice, they will not follow the voice of a stranger';. The bible is God's word. The book of mormon is man made, and not of God. His spirit will let you know this.
